Indium Free WordPress Theme for Artists
Connect the artwork to the story and the enquiry.Indium is a free WordPress block theme for artists, illustrators, and makers. Its paper-inspired layouts combine artwork grids, individual pieces, prints, commissions, and exhibition pages, with the whole site editable through the WordPress Site Editor.
An artist’s website needs more than a gallery. Visitors may want to understand a series, find the size of a print, or learn how to commission work. Indium gives those different intentions a place while keeping the artwork central to the page.

What Indium Does
Choose the capabilities that support your actual workflow. Each has a different job to do.
Artwork With Useful Detail
The Artwork template places the image alongside its title, series, details, and story. Work grids and series patterns help organize a body of work. Use them to make relationships between pieces visible instead of relying on a long undifferentiated image feed.
Pages Beyond the Portfolio
Seven full-page patterns cover Home, Work, Prints, About, Commissions, Exhibitions, and Contact. The layouts can explain how to buy or enquire, but those actions must point to your actual shop, payment route, email, or configured form.
A Flexible Paper-Based Look
Six designs range from warm Paper and Kraft to Chalkboard, Sherbet, Riso, and Photocopy. Tape, torn edges, and print treatments are block styles. Bricolage Grotesque and Caveat ship locally, with heading presets to adjust the character of the presentation.

A Portfolio With Prints and Commissions
Imagine an illustrator with a continuing series and a small selection of prints. Publish each piece as a work post, use a clear featured image, and add the medium, dimensions, and series context where they help a visitor understand it.
On the prints page, show only the editions you actually offer and connect each purchase action to the working shop or payment route. On the commissions page, explain the type of work accepted, the information needed for an enquiry, and how scope and timing are agreed. A sample rate in a pattern should never survive as an accidental quote.
Use process stories and exhibition posts to add context around the work, rather than repeating the same image in every section. The site becomes easier to maintain when each page has a clear job: show a piece, explain an offer, or begin a conversation.
The artwork attracts attention; clear details make the next step possible.
How to Get Started
Start with a staging copy and a representative task, then extend the setup once the complete path makes sense.
Install the Theme on Staging
Download the current package through the free checkout and upload it as a WordPress theme. Bring your own artwork before judging the layout.
Choose the Paper and Type Treatment
Select a design and heading preset in the Site Editor. Use decorative styles selectively so they support rather than compete with the art.
Add the Work
Create posts in a category named Work, choose the Artwork template, and set the artwork as the featured image. Add the details that help distinguish the piece.
Connect Buying and Enquiries
Replace sample prices and dates, then point print, commission, newsletter, and contact actions to real destinations. Add a form plugin if a working form is needed.
Before You Go Live
Use these checks for the parts of the workflow this product affects.
- Replace every sample artist, quote, price, and exhibition date.
- Describe the actual medium, dimensions, or edition where relevant.
- Check artwork cropping in grids and individual pages.
- Make the route to purchase or enquire explicit.
Is It Right for Your Site?
Consider the working requirements alongside the design or feature list.
When It Fits
Indium fits artists and illustrators who want an expressive portfolio, editorial context, and clear routes to prints or commissions. It is useful when the maker can maintain work as WordPress content and wants Site Editor control.
Know the Limits
It is a portfolio theme, not an ecommerce engine. Print and rate patterns do not process orders or reserve stock. Studio-letter and contact layouts need real destinations or integrations. Activation does not populate the database with a finished portfolio.
Requirements
Requires WordPress 7.0 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. It is an early-release block theme, so review it with your own work and plugins on staging. The Front Page template takes precedence over a static homepage unless you edit or remove it.
Download and License Details
Indium is free under GPL-2.0-or-later for personal and client sites. Complete the free checkout on gauravtiwari.org for the current theme ZIP. The supplied update route works in WordPress without a license key.
Gatilab explains the product and its practical use. The original product page on gauravtiwari.org handles the current offer, checkout or installation route, account access, and product support.

Common Questions
A few remaining details before you choose the product.
Can visitors buy prints through the theme alone?
No. The prints patterns present your offer. Connect their actions to a shop, payment link, or another working sales route with the information the buyer needs.
Do I need a separate page builder?
No. The theme uses core blocks, patterns, and the Site Editor. Your choice of shop or form tool is a separate functional decision.
Will the homepage find new artwork automatically?
The documented work-post setup lets the included grids pick up new pieces. Use the expected category, featured image, and template, then review the resulting order and presentation.
